JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Eastern Oregon University track and field team's day started well with Dustin Cloud in the Heptathlon. The junior had personal records in three of the day's four events. He started the day with the 60 meter run and a time of 7.48, about eight hundredths of a second faster than his PR. He followed that up with a half inch PR in the long jump (19'8.75"), and a nine inch PR in the shot put (35' 0.25"). The last event of the day was the High jump and he cleared an even 6'4" to finish tied for third in that event. Cloud sits in ninth place going into day two.
Kimmy Moore competed Thursday in the women's Pentathlon. Moore's day did not go as well as Cloud's. The first event of the day was the 60-meter hurdles where she ran 9.85 seconds, and then she did not clear her first height in the High Jump. Despite the set back, the sophomore finished the day with a new PR in the shot put, by almost three feet (34' 0.25).
The only other event for Eastern today was the women's 4x400-meter relay. As the Pentathlon 800 meters ended up being immediately before the 4x400, a last minute change was made for Alma Garcilazo to replace Moore. Garcilazo anchored the foursome of Melisa Abesa (59.7 split), Grace Deboodt (59.7) and Orie Gamez (59.2), with the fastest split of the night for EOU at smoking 57.8. They ended up in eighth place and smashed the record EOU record of 4:00.24 they set in January to qualify for this meet. Their final time was 3:56.42. The top six teams advance to the finals.
Friday's action for Eastern Oregon includes Mitch Wheelhouse and Chris Dilley in the 35-pound weight, Garcilazo in the prelims of the 800 meters, Ryan Booth in the 800 meters, and Jeff Roy in the prelims of the 1,000 meter run. Live results are available
