Katee in the City: Day Three

We have made it to Sioux City.

March 9 2010
11:00 p.m.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – As we wrap up our first full day in Sioux City, I think many of us are wondering if we have already adjusted to Central time or if we are just plain tired!

It was an eventful day as we started off with Special Olympics, as the team was paired with kids from Moc-Floyd Valley. The girls did a great job as they lead dribbling drills along with some passing, shooting, and a couple of games. After about an hour of the drills the kids then got to put there skills to the test as they got a chance to play five on five against the teams. Although the games were close, I think the kids were able to come away with the win! This was not only a great experience for the kids, but the team as well. As Shaylee would say, “Eastern Rocks”.

Tonight I also got the chance to join the team as they attended the Banquet of Champions (this dinner is head every year before the start of the tournament as all 32 teams attend). With a theme of *Basketball bling* I must say I was pretty imprested! Our girls all looked very nice as well. It was neat getting to see the girls as they were welcomed to this special event. The meal was also great as it started with salad and rolls, followed by Tuscan roasted chicken, potatoes, vegetables, and cupcakes.

Well the basketball starts tomorrow so I better get some rest. The tournament tips off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. CST, 32 teams have made the trip to Sioux City, 31 games will be played, 6 days, and one will go home with a National Title!

For those of you at home who are interested in watch the Eastern Women take on Black Hills State the game will tip off at 7:15 p.m. PT, March 10. Live viewing of the game will be available in the Quinn Building and you can also follow the action by going to NAIA.com.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – We can finally say that we have made it to Sioux City! After another small delay in the

Boise airport, I think we were all beginning to wonder if we were ever going to get out of Boise. Yet thanks to some great flying by our pilots we were able to make up a little bit of time. With a short stop in Denver, many were able to grab a sandwich before jumping right back on the plane to Omaha. We landed at about 11:50 last night, grabbed our bags, got three vans and then hit the road for the last stretch of our trip, an hour and a half car ride to Sioux City!!! Although I have been told we missed the lovely scenery along the way we pulled into our hotel at about two last night, got our rooms and headed to bed for some much needed sleep.

I am currently looking over what we have going on today. Our day starts off this morning as we head out to a Special Olympic Clinic, lunch, practice, team check-in, study table, and then the Banquet of Champions tonight. (I don't know about anyone else, but I am hoping maybe a little bit of time for a nap! Yet who knows where we are going to be able to squeeze that in). I am looking forward to these activities as it is my first ever experience and many of the teams as well. I believe there are only two girls on this team that have made this trip before so it will be good times for everyone and I look forward to sharing it with you.

I must note that I also have some video and pictures coming, I now just need to get to a store so I can purchase a card reader to load them on to my computer.

Hope everyone has a great day and I will be in touch!

BOISE, Idaho – As we prepare our selves for day two, many got the chance to sleep in before heading off to practice this morning. Although we were supposed to fly out this morning it will be a short time to relax today, as we have plane ride and busy week ahead of us. As I look over the itinerary this morning and what all the week has in store I really mean it when I say this will be a busy week. The girls will take part in a Special Olympics Clinic, Banquet of Champions, Parade of Champions, and of course the reason we are making the trip a game against Black Hills State University on Wednesday.

BOISE, Idaho -- For those of you who don't know me, my name is Katee Humphrey and I graduated last year with a degree in sociology. I was then given the amazing opportunity to work in the athletic department helping Barry out in the sports information department. Along with work in the athletic department I am also currently working on my MBA, and working part time at UPS. Need less to say, I stay busy but love every minute of it because of great opportunities like this one!

I am sorry if I kind of jump around throughout this blog, but I will warn you now this is my first ever experience with blogging so you may have to bear with me! This will be one of many posts that I hope to write as a travel along with the women's team to Sioux City Iowa. Before I get to far into this I also want to thank everyone for making this trip possible and allowing me to go, teachers and coworkers, thank you!

Where to start? That is the first question…I had a two and a half hour bus ride, shoot around, and dinner and I still don't know but am going to give it a shot. This week long trip started this morning as I, and I think I speak for a few others, packed one bag…that's right one bag full of all our necessary belongings for the week. We departed from La Grande at about 2 pm and headed for Boise. The plan: shoot around at six, dinner at seven, bed, and then depart for Sioux City at 7:18 am tomorrow morning. Although it wasn't long before everything change, and we got the news our flight had been changed from 7:18 am to 6 pm tomorrow night, kind of throwing a kink into the itinerary! So we still went to a shoot around at Boise State, dinner at the Olive Garden, and I am now currently sitting in the hotel room and the last I heard the current itinerary for tomorrow is: sleep in, breakfast at the hotel (before ten), leave the hotel at 10:25 for practice and Mountain View High School, then maybe some studying, shopping, I don't know until six as we will then at last get to head to Sioux City. Although it would have been nice to get out of here in the morning, I look forward to the week and spending time with this great team and the many more adventures/memories to be made! Night.
