In spring of 2007 a Mascot Committee was formed representing various campus groups including student government, student clubs, the EOU Alumni Association and athletics to bring forward a recommendation to University leadership regarding the revival of a Mascot tradition for the campus. The Committee also received input from EOU’s Office of Multicultural Affairs.
"The Mountaineer" which is symbolic of the region and the University nickname will be used to increase audience enthusiasm at athletic events, create memorable experiences at student recruitment and alumni receptions, and provide EOU with an exciting new face at parades and other public events.
