Schimmel Scrimmage Set for Saturday

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University football team will complete the 2010 spring schedule Saturday at the fourth annual Rollin Schimmel Scrimmage presented by The Order of the Knights of Pythias in Pendleton.

The Mountaineers will travel to Round-Up country once again this season and play their end-of-the-Spring schedule classic at Pendleton High School. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kick off.

Rollin Schimmel, an EOU and NAIA Hall of Fame member, dedicated his life to the advancement of amateur athletics. Schimmel spent much of his life living and coaching in Pendleton passed away in 2006.

There is no admission cost to the game. The spring game will be the 16th and final workout for Mountaineer football during the spring season. Eastern Oregon was ranked No. 21 in NAIA Spring Football Coaches' Top 25 poll recently.

The Mountaineers ended the 2009 season at No. 22 after finishing the year 7-4 overall and 7-3 in the Frontier Conference. EOU spent eight weeks in the nation's top 25 last season and climbed to No. 19. Eastern grabbed 83 votes from around the country.

Eastern Oregon enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in 30 years, breaking 30 school records and posted seven wins, which marks only the third time in 80 years. EOU scored 43 points against No. 2 Carroll (Mont.) in the final regular season game, the most scored on the five-time national champions in a decade. The Mountaineers held a ranking for eight straight weeks in the Coaches' Top 25 poll. EOU ranked in the top 20 in 12 different statistical categories.
