MARION, Ind. – Eastern Oregon University track and field athlete, Chris Dilley, finished in second place in the men's hammer throw at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday.
The senior became a four-time All-American with the finish. His best toss was 196 feet, three inches. Bruno Boccalotta of Lindenwood entered as the top seed and won with the best throw in the NAIA this season, 213 feet, six inches.
Andy Munsey finished the hammer throw in 18th with a toss of 168 feet, nine inches. Mitch Wheelhouse was 28th at 161 feet, seven inches.
Karlee Coffey finished her freshman season with an All-American finish in the women's 10,000 meters. She entered as the sixth seed and ended with a sixth place finish. Coffey crossed the line at 36:44.45. It is Coffey's second All-American title this year after being named the same in cross country. The top time belonged to Obsie Birru at 36:17.88.
Alma Garcilazo and Ryan Booth advance to Friday's semifinals in the women's and men's 800 meters. Garcilazo ran a 2:15.00 in the preliminaries, and Booth finished with the 12th fastest time in the opening round on the men's side, 1:55.98. Booth came back after a hamstring injury to qualify for the semifinals. Andrew Perri finished less than a second off of semifinal qualifying time at 1:56.88.
Maddison Stapleton entered the women's pole vault as the 21st seed, but finished 10th in the NAIA with a top mark of 11 feet, nine inches. Stapleton was tied with eight other people as the 21st seed and was a jump away from earning points and a couple jumps away from All-American status. The conference champion ended a great season with a top 10 finish at the national championships.
Terry Johnsen finished his race in the 12th with a time of 32:18.17. The sophomore ran a great race and ends his year in Indiana. Johnsen came into the race last year as the 12th seed and finished in 19th, this year he came in as the 19th seed and crossed the line in 12th.
Sarah Hanchett began the day for the Mountaineers in the women's 1,500 meters. The freshman crossed the line at 4:54.93. Hanchett finished her freshman season at the national championships as well.
Kimmy Moore slipped on the landing of the third hurdle in the women's 400-meter hurdles after coming into the event as the 19th seed. She finished the race at 1:10.66. Moore ended her sophomore season after another solid year with the hurdles.
The women's 4x800-meter relay team of Talissa Baldovino, Jessianne Heley, Sierra Engler, and Hanchett finished in 19th with a time of 9:35.14. The top nine teams in the preliminaries advanced.
