Garcilazo Named All-American With 4th Place Finish

MARION, Ind. – Eastern Oregon University track and field athlete, Alma Garcilazo, was named an All-American after a fourth place finish in the women's 800 meters Saturday.

Garcilazo ran a school record, 2:11.00, breaking her own old record of 2:12.01. The Umatilla, Ore. native, was an All-American already this year with a fourth-place finish at the NAIA Indoor National Championships

in the 800 meters. She qualified for the NAIA Cross Country Championships as well this year.

The sophomore has broken her own school record by almost four and a half seconds during the season. Garcilazo ran the fastest split in EOU history three times this season, including the most recent in Indiana.

Garcilazo entered the national meet as the fifth seed. She ran a 2:15.00 in the preliminaries, a 2:12.14 in the semifinal, and the record-breaking 2:11.00 in the final. Entering the season the EOU record was 2:15.60.

Eastern Oregon finishes the national meet with several highlights and records. The Mountaineer women finished 32nd in the nation, and the men were 35th.
