PORTLAND, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University softball player, Ashli Hughes, was named to the Cascade Collegiate All-Conference team. Suzie Espinoza was named the first base gold glove winner as well.
Hughes led Eastern Oregon with a .365 batting average, which was also eighth in the Cascade Conference. The sophomore also led the Mountaineers with 10 steals in 2010. The outfielder finished the season with a slugging percentage of .479. The Nampa, Idaho native had 35 hits and 12 RBI for EOU.
Espinoza was solid at first base for the Mountaineers and received the gold glove honor at the position for the CCC. The sophomore made the transition from the mound to first base this season, and excelled in the infield. She appeared and started in 39 games for EOU and finished the season with a .990 fielding percentage, committing only three errors.
Concordia newcomers Ali Paz and Renee Santos, who played key roles in the Cavaliers winning the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season softball title and earning a current national ranking of No. 4, have been named the CCC’s Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, according to a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Paz, a transfer from College of the Siskiyous, also was named the CCC’s Newcomer of the Year.
Concordia coach Carrie Kosderka-Farrell, who has guided the Cavs to a record of 32-4 entering this weekend’s CCC Championships, was named the league’s Coach of the Year. This is the first regular season title in her eight-year tenure at Concordia.
Northwest Christian earned the Champions of Character Award, which is based on the NAIA’s core tenets of character, integrity and sportsmanship.
