LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Eastern Oregon men's cross country team finished fourth and
McKenzie Evans finished 108th in the 2014 NAIA Cross Country National Championships held at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan.
The Mountaineers finished with 144 points, two points away from third place Olivet Nazarene (Ill.).
Leading the way for the Mountaineers men's cross country team was
Damion Flores and
Lucas Updike, as both ran with the lead pack. Flores started to pull away from Updike around the two mile mark. Flores continued to chase people down and finished second overall with a time of 24:41.30.
Updike was the second finisher for the Mountaineers, as he came in 23rd overall with a time of 25:29.60. Both Flores and Updike's finishes gave EOU two All-American's.
Finishing third and fourth for Eastern Oregon was
Kody Shriver and
Hans Roelle. Shriver finished 32nd overall and Roelle finished tied for 33rd, both just missing out on All-American honors. Shriver finished with a time of 25:38.40, while Roelle was right behind with a time of 25:39.4.
Two of the top four team finishers came from the Cascade Collegiate Conference and nine of the 30 All-Americans came from the CCC.
McKenzie Evans finished 108th on the women's side. She started slow but gradually worked her way up the field. Evans moved up to finish 108th overall. She ran a time of 19:27.90.
