GULF SHORES, Ala. (Full Results) – A national runner-up performance by
Isaac Updike helped the Eastern Oregon University men to a ninth-place finish at the 2015 NAIA Track and Field National Championships at Blackwell Stadium.
Five student-athletes earned All-America honors on the final day, as the men's squad collected 31 points during the three-day meet, while the women's team scored six points to finish in a tie for 43rd-place.
In today's opening event on the track, both
Isaac Updike and
Lucas Updike earned All-American honors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. The Updike's ran in the lead pack the entire race, with four laps to go
Isaac Updike made his move and led the race until 300 meters to go, where Benard Keter passed him.
Isaac Updike hung on to finish second breaking his own school record with a time of 8:47.00.
Lucas Updike finished fifth with a time of 9:06.64.
In the 400-meter hurdles,
Ashanna Hodge broke the EOU school record, eclipsing her time from
Thursday's preliminary round. Hodge placed a close third with a time of 1:00.89, earning a spot on the podium and earning All-America honors.
In the men's 5,000-meter race, Eastern Oregon earned two more All-America awards. Running in the front of the pack,
Damion Flores finished fourth in the event with a time of 15:02.49, with
Isaac Updike two spots behind him with a time of 15:08.93.
Three other EOU athletes were in competition today, as
Harley McBride finished tenth in the high jump. McBride cleared 1.65 meters (5-5 feet) on her third attempt, but failed to clear 1.68 meters (5-6).
In the triple jump,
Hakeem Belle aggravated a hamstring injury in his first attempt and did not record a mark, while teammate
Travis Simpson recorded a leap of 14.08 meters (46-2.50 feet) to finish 11th overall.
