EOU Women’s Wrestling Takes Third at Cliff Keen WWCTOC Duals

ROCKLIN, Calif. – EOU women's wrestling concluded their first major duals this season, as the team placed third at the Cliff Keen Women's West Coast Tournament of Champions Friday night in northern California.

The Mountaineers, now 4-2, would go 1-2 for the day as they achieved a 20-18 victory over the Chokers and would fall to Southern Oregon and Emmanuel College.

One grappler ended her night a perfect 3-0, as freshman Alexis Cavero helped her team secure 14 of the 35 total points to be the main heirloom to their third place run.

In her home state, Cavero took her first triumph by forfeit over the Chokers. In the 155 weight class, the true freshman got a pin in the first period (1:28) and continued her dominance to extend her fall count to eight. Cavero's last victory was over Emmanuel College's Ophelia Lara, whose team went on to take first place.

The 10-0 technical fall over Lara gave the Golden State native her 14th victory this season, as Cavero has the most wins and pin falls on the team.
Cassidy Freeman put up five points over Grays Harbor's Sophia Hernandez, pinning the Choker in the second period (4:12). Freeman's fall makes this her second for the year and her fourth win.

Also to succeed in the first dual was freshman Leah Olsen, who defeated Nina Pham by an 8-4 decision. For the season, Olsen racked up her seventh win and fourth dual over opponents.

Continuing the stretch for the Blue and Gold was freshman duo Madisen Bozovich and Renay Monohan, who each secured forfeits.

Following on with the Cliff Keen Duals, the women's team will be set to compete in their fourth tournament thus far in Rocklin, California on Saturday, starting at 9:00 a.m.
