CCC Adds Men's Wrestling as Sponsored Sport

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Beginning with the 2017-18 season, men's wrestling will be a Cascade Collegiate Conference recognized sport, it was announced by the conference office.

With the announcement, the Eastern Oregon men's wrestling team will join the conference along with seven other schools including fellow full-time members Southern Oregon, Providence and Warner Pacific.

"This is a great opportunity for our wrestlers and will definitely enhance their experiences as student-athletes," said head coach Dustyn Azure. "We have many great teams in the new conference and the Cascade Conference will be very well represented at the national level."

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical, Menlo College, Montana State Northern and Simpson will also join the CCC as associate members to round out the eight-team conference.

The NAIA created a new model for men's wrestling in effect for this season that places an emphasis on conference direct wrestling. The new model will additionally guarantee that the champion from each weight class of the conference tournament will automatically advance to the NAIA Championships.

Southern Oregon University will host the first ever CCC Men's Wrestling Championships on February 17, 2018 in Ashland, Oregon. The 61st Annual NAIA National Championships will take place on March 2-3 in De Moines, Iowa.
