Women's Wrestling Iain Dexter, EOU Sports Information Director

Women’s Wrestling Adds 7 Student-Athletes for 2018-19

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women's wrestling team signed seven student-athletes for the 2018-19 campaign, head coach Dustyn Azure announced.
 
Additionally, the team is seeking a head women's coach for the year and to assist Coach Azure.
 
Macy HigaMacy Higa • Honolulu, Hawaii • Projected Weight 116 lbs.
Higa ranked 13th in the National High School Girls rankings and is a four-time high school state placer, taking sixth place, second place and first place twice. She also took fifth at the UWW Junior Nationals and joins EOU with a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.
 
"Macy is someone who will come in and make a strong impact right away," said Azure. "She has plenty of experience at high level national tournaments and her work ethic is going to take her far at the college level."
 
Nicole ClarkNicole Clark • Puyallup, Wash. - Projected Weight 143 lbs.
Clark is a two-time Washington High School state placer with a third and first place finish. Additionally, she was the Western Regionals Freestyle champion. 

"Nicole is another student-athlete who has competed at high level tournaments," said Azure. "She is going to be a great contribution in a weight class where we need someone to step up. Her constant progress throughout high school is something we are excited to keep moving forward."
 
Rosa RamirezRosa Ramirez • Ontario, Ore. • Projected Weight 116/123 lbs.
Ramirez joins the Mountaineers after becoming the Jaybird Memorial Classic Champion. She boasts a 3.2 GPA in the classroom.
 
"Rosa comes to us from an all boys high school team, and she has proven that she can compete," said Azure. "We feel she has a high ceiling to grow and we look forward to watching her progress."
 
Dempsi Dempsi TalkingtonTalkington • Kennewick, Wash. • Projected Weight 136 lbs.
Talkington comes to EOU after finishing seventh place at the Washington High State Championships. She will also be successful in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA.
 
"Dempsi is coming from a traditionally strong wrestling community in the Tri Cities area," said Azure. "She has shown she can compete against the best, and her placing at the Washington State tournament was a big step for her confidence. She will compete in the middle weights and give us some added depth there."

Krystal FabricanteKrystal Fabricante - Kodiak, Alaska - Projected Weight 136 lbs.
Fabricante earned an Alaskan State title out of Kodiak, Alaska to add another strong piece to the women's wrestling program.

"Krystal will be joining us after taking a year off following her 2017 State Championship run," said Azure. "The high school state tournament in Alaska is very competitive and for her to finish at the top shows that she has the ability to compete strongly at the next level."
 
Amber HamiltonAmber Hamilton - Fullerton, Calif. - Projected Weight 130 lbs.
Hamilton finished her high school career as a state qualifier in California.
 
"Amber is someone who has been constantly pushing to get better in the sport," said Azure. "She has been travelling to tournaments across the country, seeking out top-level competition. She still has room to grow and with her competitive attitude, we believe she can reach her goals."
 
Alioz MasonAlioz Mason - Ontario, OR - Projected Weight 123/130 lbs.
 Mason joins EOU as a two-time Oregon High School State Placer, taking fourth and third place. She also brings a 3.8 GPA to the program.
 
"Alioz is one of those rare athletes that can pick up things so quickly and her results confirm that," said Azure. "Having only wrestled 2 years and placing both years at the state tournament is quite an accomplishment. We are excited to see her progress and look forward to continued success."
